what is wrong with 3 points ?
Silly to not take 3 points so early in the game. Gould would have easily made the FG. Only go for it when your down in the 4th quarter late or if a punt would only gain you negligible field position.
I wouldnt say "only," we went for it on 4th against GB, and it ended up producing an 8 minute scoring drive for us.
As a teacher once told me "You always go for the points no matter what early in the game. It may help you later on."
It depends. The Lions are good run stoppers, so I didn't like that call or the run at the end of the game. 49ers kicked a FG from 1-yd. line in first half today.
Hated the call. I was screaming for the field goal but trestman must not have heard me...
Trestman likes going for it on 4th. How many were screaming at him for going for it on 4-1 on their own 30 last week? sometimes it works, sometimes it wont.
No problem with going for it on 4th
The odds are good that you can get a single yard, but the Lions are good against the run.
Normally I kick the field goal, but had we made it I would be calling Trestman the man of Steel because he has iron balls.
Exactly. It is one of those moves that either make him a genius or an idiot.
I also don't have an issue with Trestman's willingness to go for it on 4th.
Normally, you put the points on the board early in the game. But not always. Which team was winning the "war in the trenches" in this game? Lions. That's why I didn't like either of those calls.
Okay. What were you thinking BEFORE the 4-1 on the Bears own 30 winning by less than a TD with a few minutes left?
I think you need to be able to get 2 yards, they know the risks. Sucks when it leaves you hanging. But other eggheads (ie. New England) do it all the time. Can change your game day attitude, in this case... Well you better work on how to get 2 yards.
You only do that if you have no confidence in your team's defense to get a stop with the game on the line.
I agreed with Trestman. You get stopped 3rd and close, you try it again.
So..... you liked it, you didn't like it? Don't hide behind the "no confidence" line.
It is a simple question.
One thing to remember..... Mannelly was NOT playing. That likely played into the decision to go for it on 4th down
Kick the ball. You look at NFL coach decisions over the last 10 years, and 90% don't go for it on 4th-and-1 in that situation. Very late in the game with no confidence in your defense is a different case.
So, the Bears picked up the first. Went on to win the game because of that gutsy 4th down call.
Still hated it?
I have no problem with them going for it there being early in the game to get the mo on your side. Don't forget Detroit tried to go for it on 4th down on the very next possession so it ended up being a wash.
