Just curious, because sometimes EVEN I am kinda embarrassed that I don't completely understand the penal nuances of every single whistle. Well guys, feast your eyes on this. Great explanation of some of the "stickier calls" in the sport we all love. Now, when your wife and/or gf asks you, "why did they get called for a penalty on that play? what just happened? What is the rule?", you can respond with confidence, instead of making stuff up! :)

Why can't we make stuff up AND be confident?

    Your doing it wrong.

Driving back to Chicago from the game Monday some sportcaster more then likely a Packer sportscaster pointed out the the Packers had zero penaties, but then went on to say he couldn't believe the Bears only had 4. He didn't go on to say anything more about it, but it pissed me off, because to me it sounded like he was say the Bears should have gotten a ton more penaties in the game and I sure the heck didn't see that.

I thought it was an evenly called game. They didn't call holding on both sides. I mean I say holding all day long. Mostly from GB, but both sides had it.

If you are going to call or not call, make it balanced. I think it was a good job by the ref's.

In Washington, they called everything on us, but hardly anything on the Redskins. Again, call the game evenly.

I've never had to ask someone to explain a penalty in a football game. I'm usually the one explaining things to others. Hockey on the other hand...I probably sound like an idiot asking my friends to explain what the hell the rules are. lol.

lol... I still shrug at illegal formation calls sometimes... usually after a ref tries to explain it and I thought it was something else... fortunately a ref explaining himself is rare.

They are constantly changing the rules every year, so its hard to keep up. I really dont care WHAT they call, so long as evidence supports their call, that the rule was clearly explained to teams before hand (if it is a new rule), and most importantly, that they remain CONSISTENT about it. So long as every team is treated the same, and gets called on the same things, then it remains fair.

To know it all is to act like "a know it all."
Heck ya! It embarrasses me, and does too often.
I just blame that one guy...
