In order of importance, how would you rank these six areas on defense? In an ideal draft (if the best player available could be the area of most need) how would you rank these 1 through 6?

    Cornerbacks
    Safeties
    MLB
    OLB's
    DE's
    DT's

That is how I would put the need for defense but not indicative of how we will draft. I believe an OT and possibly a C will be in the mix and depending who is available will dictate the pick. I am also expecting a key FA or so to maybe fill one or two of the needs.

We could sure use an absolute stud with that first pick. A guy who is an impact player from the beginning of his career. I think I'd go with:

    1. The best dline guy available at our draft position (DE would be nice here)
    2. The best LB still on the board (a stud MLB would be great....but get the best LB left here)
    3. Safety (doesn't matter if it's FS or SS.....just grab the best safety still on the board).
    4. CB
5 & 6. You're probably getting a marginal guy here. Backup or a project guy who can play special teams.

It's usually about build the line ... but it has to be LB and secondary.

I want two safeties. Either two in draft or one in draft and one FA, depending on what's available. After that, take best available. After spending $67 million on Allen and Houston, it would be an admission of failure to draft a DE high. I would like to see Allen and Young as the starters and CornWash first off the bench. If we could draft the next Urlacher, then that would be best of all worlds, but not likely. MLB most critical of the LBs.

I'm done with free agency. BUILD THROUGH THE DRAFT.

I get your point. Emery has not done very well in FA.

I'm in agreement with the safety piece. We are in need of two true safeties. As much as I want Vereen and Conte to succeed in the NFL, I'm not sold on their ability to do so.
If I were to rank out our draft needs on the defensive side of the ball (assuming Paea is an affordable option), I'd say
    1. MLB
    2. FS
    3. WLB
    4. SS
    5. DB
    6. SAM
    7. DE
    8. DT

I agree if you can get a stud MLB. Man, I miss Urlacher!
