As far as I can tell:

DE: Houston, Scott, Bass, Washington, Lane
    DT: Ratliff, Paea, Collins

    SAM: McLellin
    Mike: Williams, Bostic
    Will: Briggs, Greene

    CB: Jennings, ???
    NB: Frey, Hayden
    SS: ?????
    FS: Mundy, Conte

I think we need veteran starting level players at DT, DE, SS and CB and then to pretty much hit up the same positions in the draft again to let the talented rookies compete for spots with some veterans. We've got the in house guys to fill most of the needs if we cut Peppers and brought back Wootton, Melton and Zac Bowman.

Will Wootton and Melton be the right price or are there better alternatives? And who are the reasonably priced veteran DB's on the market?

We need a 3 first and foremost. That could be had at 14 but also so could Pryor who is a model SS. Should be interesting.

You're not drafting Pryor at 14.

We need to get a DT, the better the pass rush and pressure on the qb from the d-line the better the chances the secondary can make interceptions.
A cornerback and safety can be gotten in the second round or later, of course this might change depending on how the players are coming off the board the Bears may have targeted to get.

I'm more saying with the rest of FA before or after the draft. I mean as it stands right now who's our SS and who's our second CB? Even with if we took them with first and second round picks you can't expect rookies to start with no competition or decent back ups. We need at least some veteran guys to come in and do a job just like Slauson did on the reworked offense.

I completely agree, was just mentioning other options. I have best the drub for the crucial 3 tech at 14 all off season. I just also know emery is a bit erratic with our first rounders so him falling in love with a guy like Pryor wouldn't shock me. Bottom line, the 3tech need trumps any DB IMO but loon at all the dts we just recently signed. It makes me nervous.

Is it just me or is most everyone not real impressed with Emery's progress so far this off season? I liked the Houston pick up as plan B but it seems there were and are decent FA's for the taking. The fact they didn't go after Ward baffles me. And picking up two garbage safeties now has me wondering. I'm hoping he winds it up by signing a decent edge rusher on the other side of Houston and brings back Peanut. That should cover 1-2 more holes and then hit it hard in the draft.

Overall I like what he's done thus far. I too would have liked to make a run at Ward, especially seeing what he got from Denver. I thought Verner got a fair deal from Tampa Bay too. It's hard to react one way or the other only 1 day and a half in. Lot's of things still could shake out and change.

True dat. I was just hoping for more than one splash signing especially since a lot of teams have more money to spend just like we do. It a shopper's market.

Yeah with the exception of Houston the other guys aren't even gaurenteed a roster spot. Only real splash that could be made is Allen/Ware

Big money deal...3 years 30 mill for Ware. Apparently if he didn't take it they were going to offer it to Allen. Sorry, I'm not paying that much for Allen. Where is Denver getting all this money? How much under the cap were they?

Yeah, because filling an absolute position of priority need with crap for depth with the top player at the position in his class would be a terrible mistake. Give me a total stud field general like Dix at 14 and I'll be a very happy man.

The only area of concern not hit yet is DT.

    Mundy at safety ...ehh.

Your "field general" better be one helluva cover man and ballhawk playing behind a DL that doesn't generate a pass rush.

So far we have exactly zero DLs on the roster that could be considered serious sack threats (hopefully Houston will get there but he's been more of a run defender so far in his career). And please don't tell me Shea is suddenly gonna become one at LB. Anything he adds I'll consider gravy. We have no evidence yet that he will a better NFL OLB than he was a DE.
