Tice's offense didn't suffer the number of injuries, and the severity of injuries that Tucker's defense has. Add to that, the fact that the entire offense noticeably regressed last year.

I agree that this isn't a one dimensional issue, however, there are some things people are overlooking:

We're not even on our 2nd string DT's anymore
Our crappy safeties are playing deeper than they normally would, which aids in sweep and pitch runs
McClellin can't contain worth a ****, and at least one of those runs was due to him buying on a fake
Our rookie LB's are playing better than they did in their first game
Bass is playing much better than he did earlier in the season.

Now, you mention that the guys that were put in weeks ago aren't progressing, but do you you really think Leonard Cohen, Major Rite and Chris Conte would progress under great coaches? Not all young guys "get it" at any point in their rookie year, but each of the rookies have shown a little bit more than the veteran holdovers we have.

    For the 748th time:

The defense sucked from the very start even before the injury parade reached critical mass.

And if they did would the excuse machine roll out as much for him? There isn't much excuse for lack of fundamentals, gap integrity, and landmark reads. I think we're 5-8 spots better if healthy but that is still sad in inheriting a top 5 defense and just getting freaking POSTERIZED week in and out with the freaking run.

    Enough already.

These are arguments that can go back and forth forever. There are always points (valid ones) that can be made on both sides of the discussion. We will have additional data to look at next year. He will be here again and will once again have a healthy crew to start with. If his new healthy crew sucks just as bad as his old crew (that have been in this D for years and were extremely well respected and effective), then I would say that many of these points that are being made will no longer be able to provide any cover.

Of course, the flip side is that he gets a new group, installs a brand new D of his own and moves into the top 5 D (very similar to what Trestman did). I just don't see it. At this point, I am not going to be convinced and neither are you, so we wait and see. The only thing we can do anyway...

Okay, inheriting how? Briggs, Urlacher, Peanut, Melton and Nick Roach (who was a hell of a lot better at calling defensive plays on the field than Briggs) are all either gone, or have missed the majority of the season. If anything, he inherited part of a top 5 defense. To add to that, we have a rookie linebacker calling the plays this year, whereas we had Brian Urlacher calling the plays on the field last year.

Fair enough. Also, if he DOES get fired after the end of the year, I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.

We might do better if we didn't have Defense on the field would give the O more chances.

Earlier in the season, you could say just the opposite.
