As it stands, unless they start playing better this season, this team is not a viable SB contender, so we'll have to be happy with something short of that. The question is, how much short of that goal should we be happy with?

Should be able to just barely make the playoff on a wildcard.

But that does also mean that the offense has to step up. They yet still have to play 4 quarters of good offensive football and because of that the games are way closer than they should be.

We are now 5-2, and the last qtr of our season is full of schlubs and weak sauce. The Bears should at least have a winning record, playoffs migth be a stretch, but I felt that was a stretch to begin with.

I'm gonna go with an optimistic "wild card", just because the NFC East and South are garbage, and will only have division winners, Arizona's not likely to make the wildcard this year, and at this point, it looks like we'll be fighting Detroit or Green Bay for the other spot, just based on where things stand right now.

i would love it if we sneak into playoffs, and then we'll see... but that would be great for this team, it seems we lack on a lot of stuff... but its getting better, looking forward to this season, still

I voted for the wild card... with how the majority of the NFC East & South suck the wild cards should come out of the North & West divisions.

Let's just hope the offense can continue to develop and the defense can refine itself enough, rather than regress, that Da Bears peak going into the final weeks of the season.

We retooled this off-season ... the rebuilding starts next season.

I'm really hoping that the fact we are now playing only one game in the next 24 days is going to allow some of our guys to get healthy again. Paea, Peanut, Martellus, etc. I know we have been hurt badly by the loss of Melton and Collins, but those are the only two season-ending injuries (Kelvin Hayden). I really think that this break came just at the right time, and we might be looking pretty good heading into the GB game. Hopefully they will still be without CMIII at that point. I think the D can still pull it together, but we will need to focus heavily on a defensive rebuild next offseason. I voted wildcard as well.

A successful season, in my eyes, will simply be a team that improves all season long. It is a new team. New coaches, players, youngsters starting, schemes, playbooks etc.

The Brandon Marshall interview (thread LINK) was spot on, IMHO. It takes time to pull all of this together and become a top-tier team. So, for me it's not a simple win/loss thing. Heck, we won 10 games last year, and clearly were a mediocre team. I want to see the team get better each week, and build a firm foundation for sustained winning in future years. Winning Super Bowls, and not just 10-win mediocre teams that stay in 3rd place of the NFC-N each year.

Gotta crawl, then walk & THEN run with the Big Boys winning Super Bowls.

Ric, I just assumed that you were stating the obvious.
We will be 5-2 and go into the bye week looking pretty good.

My bad. I just assumed being new here and seeing you as the condescending type with your cocky attitude you didn't make mistakes. Damn fat fingers. Anyway, we are all Bears fans, some of us just think we are better than others. uhhhummmm. So yeah.

Considering the Washington whatevers are the next opponent and the entirety of the NFCE is awfull it's a safe assumption. But it's going to completely depend on if the team can get a adacuate DL to stop Wash's run game and running qb.

    Let's see .........
    New Coaching staff -- check
New "O" Line (with 4 new starters including two rookies) -- check
New LB core (two of the three and one injured) now including one rookie -- check
"D" Line decimated by injuries and aging (Peppers) -- check
NO Cap space to bring in even one veteran FA -- check

At this point I would think that a winning record would be a achievement in itself. Getting into the playoffs would be a bonus but with teams like SF, Seattle and (choke) Detroit I just don't think it's going to happen.
