Let's play a game. Complete the sentence.

    If Urlacher were here......

If Urlacher where here, the Bears defense would be completely healthy

If Urlacher were here he would be injured. We'd just have 1 more injured guy on defense (as if we needed any more of 'em). Seemed like he was injured a lot as he got old and brittle.

    If Urlacher were here....

Major Wright would always know where to be, when playing as the 8th man in the box, so the Bears would never have allowed 100 yards rushing this season

Chris Conte would know how to cover, so we could keep him in single coverage every game

Bostic would be completely ready to replace him when he retired, because he'd learn a LOT from the sidelines

Briggs could concentrate on JUST playing, so he wouldn't be distracted by calling plays, and would be headed to another Pro Bowl

The defense would have nothing but 3 and outs, so even if the offense had a bad game, they'd still get great field position, and would win every game, even if they only scored field goals

If Urlacher was here all of the WEIGHT LIFTING WORK OUT EQUIPMENT would be back at HALAS HALL.

Wow was I freaked out to find out all of that work out equipment was his and he took it all with him.

Why we didnt replace that I dont know. Alot of it is for sale on E-Bay.

I hear Trestman has a few bids in. I have a bid in for one of the Nautilus workout devices.

If Urlacher were still here, he would've slapped Trestman in the face for playing Cutler in the 3rd quarter, then put McCown in, and call every offensive play. Even though the Lions had already scored by that point, the Bears would have won 68-0

We would probably have better player alignment on D and that would probably make a difference in some cases in terms of having players in position to make more stops. As to whether there would be any net gain, it is hard to say. We really don't know to what extent Urlachers slow down last year was to to continued injurey and we don't know if he would have been much faster, so hard to gauge how much speed we would have lost.

Also, I think the D did really rally around him and possibly we would have more defensive fire on the field. On the flip side, he was a big Lovie proponent, so perhaps the dynamics would have been a negative in the locker room.

Urlacher did not have too many years left and Emery at some point would have had to make changes. I think looking back, we were fortunate that it happened when it did because Emery netted some pretty good LBs, and it's hard to say if that would have been the case next year. I actually did want to have Urlacher back this year though. I think not much is being said, but the defensive reads by Briggs do not seem to be to the same level they were, so I think another year of Urlacher might have helped him if one Urlachers tasks was to make sure Briggs got the defensive calls down. Briggs has been in the system a long time but still was thrown in cold in that respect. If nothing else, a better transition might have taken place.

But hard to tell if it's a positive or a negative. Doesn't much matter because we can't go back. We just need to get the guys we have playing better.

If Urlacher were here with all the injurys due to a lack of work out or some damn thing he would be sidelined with a hammy about now.

If Urlacher were here we'd have a better defensive coordinator on the field than on the sidelines.
