I've been on the "anti-peppers" bandwagon since the first game. I'm too lazy too look it up, but wasn't Peppers contract renegotiated and he ended up with less $$$? If that is true, add that to the "hurt feelings" of Lovie being fired, Urlacher and Rod quitting, I say its just all attitude.

I agree with the folks here saying you can't get that bad in off season. You can't go from a star player to rock bottom in one off season. Like Urlacher, it was a slow degrade over the years. And even then, he still had the same passion. Peppers has zero passion. Also he is winded, which means he's not putting in 100% into training.

I believe he will be cut next year. But Peppers is the tip of the ice berg. Our Defense is showing signs of degradation and I think it will be a rapid decline. The loss of Rod and Urlacher is showing. Sometimes players make great plays, but the fundamentals are not always there. To be honest the Saints game was the first time IMO that they played good fundamentals, BUT they didn't make any special plays.

Peppers, is in bad shape. Briggs is good, but that offsides infraction worried me, that was a rookie move. Other than Tillman, the whole Defense is in trouble. I really believe that Tillman is carrying the whole D right now and that will wear on him.

One writer this morning was wondering if the Bears are being 100% candid about his health. They said the Bears are notorious for not giving out full disclosure on health and injury issues. I don't know if I agree with that or not. They had him listed with a chest injury before the game. That really doesn't tell us much though.

It not how dare they old...it's how dare they get old 5 games into the season...I don't think people are mad he's getting old per say; they're mad we're screwed at that position all season because he can't produce at the require/expected level....

First, Pep didn't take a pay cut, he restructured and got bonus money now that reduced his cap hit.

Second, I do believe he is injured and not bouncing back like he and the staff thinks he would, because he is old.

Third, without halfway decent DT's next to him, he has an uphill battle in front of him. We've been struggling at DT all year too.

Yeah, but folks here still think it's a "conspiracy" linked to Lovie Smith getting fired. Being old and injured is just not plausible to them. Maybe he's joined Al Qaeda in the off-season & eloped with Sasquatch too.

I don't even think she's that good lookin' either (although I've dated worse). But they say he's been chasing the Sasquatch gal and partying instead of studying the playbook and gettin' his sleep before games.

And to think we were feeling sorry for the guy, thinking it was just an injury/age thing. I think it's a mid-life crisis. Next thing we know, the old guy is running around with a hot Sasquatch girl & angry that Lovie got fired (suposedly, Lovie introduced the two love-birds right after he was let go, and Trestman took over).

    It's a conspiracy for sure!

Emery had to blow up the OL to get on the road to recovery and I think he's going to have to do the same with the DL too. The only remaining OL starter this year from the Lovie/Angelo era is Garza and the backups are all Emery guys too. The DL looks its in similar straights to what the OL was a year ago. The only "key players" (and yes i know its a rotation) I can see being back next season are Paea and Wooton at this point.

Melton will be returning from a concussion and ACL. Depending on his recovery, he MAY be brought back on a prove-it deal or he may get more money elsewhere. Probably gone.

Collins is in the same boat and he was a second tier guy. He's likely gone.

Shea is a total bust as a DE. Either he becomes a 3-4 OLB (I doubt it) or he should be gone if we stick with the 4-3.

Peppers is looking old and not worth his huge payday due next season. I think it's time to move on.

Looks to me like we will need two new "starters" and a few new depth guys on the DL next year. I'm amazed, and I know injuries have contributed, at how fast and far the DL has imploded this year.

Reposting this MP: (from post #6 in thread: ESPN: "Julius Peppers and Corey Wootton appear to be giving maximum effort")

McClellin has not played well, I'll give you that. I am delusional, I'll give you that too... However, I'm still holding on thoughts of Shea producing. What I've seen of him is that he could be hanging around enough to be OKAY.

    Look at the statistics:
McClellin is credited with 12 tackles, .5 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery
Peppers is credited with 8 tackles, 1 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery
Paea is credited with 13 tackles, .5 sacks, 0 ff, 0 fr.
Melton in his three games was credited with 5 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 ff, 0 fr
Collins is credited with 14 tackles, 1 sack, 0 ff, 0 fr
Wotton is credited with 11 tackles, 1 sack, 1 ff, 2 fr

Who exactly looks like our J.J. Watt there? McC > Bass, Cohen, Minter, or Washington statistically speaking. I hope when they get an opportunity one or more of the other DL make the most of it, but without seeing that opportunity; I'm trusting the choices of the coaching staff who set the line up.

Now I'll also throw in that some people listed, besides McClellin have looked better and contributed more to the team (esp. vs. the run)... But a true bust, a really scratch your head and point your finger bust would be inactive. Vernon Gholston-ish Ghosting. The problem is the DL on the whole.
