A-11, I'd love for Shea to "succeed" too and thought he'd be able to pack on 15 pounds and become a true base end for us. But, admitting I was wrong here, he couldn't (without losing his speed that is). His ideal playing weight seems to be about 245-250 and that is too small 99% of the time to stand up in the run game as a base 4-3 DE. I wish it wasn't so but he's a misfit for our D scheme. He needs to be a 3-4 rushbacker and simply isn't effective with a hand down on the line.

Im not sure Shea would be effective as a LB in a 3-4. He shows flashes of things but cant seem to do them consistently

What position do you think he can play then???
Cuz it isn't 4-3 DE. He's way overmatched there.

I think he great at 3rd and long plays. Let him rush the QB because you know a team with a 3rd and 8 or more is going to throw the ball. THats where he might be the best and most effective. After that he get him to the bench. He's nothing more then a smaller Mark Anderson, too small to be your every down guy.

If all he can ever be is a 3rd and long rush specialist, then his future here should be short.

Here's a photo of Peppers last year

Here's a photo of Peppers this year. Notice that not only is he weaker, he's smaller too.
