I am not saying I want Forte gone, I love the skillset he has, just commenting on the devaluation of the RB and where his contract is.

Bush is only that low b/c of how poorly he performed in Mia and NO's, the rest are rookies or guys on their 3rd contract, and the others just suck and I wouldn't want taking the place of Forte for the cost difference.

The top 6 rb's are all in line w/eachother, and up until this year Ray Rice was right in line w/everyone else.

Carey is not the long term starting answer, he's a hell of a pickup, but he's not starting material either.

I don't think the value of RB's is any less now than it was when his deal was done and if anything his value to the Bears is as high or higher than any other RB in the NFL save AP. The Bears knew what they were buying and left themselves an out. He's surely not going anywhere now and if his career can be extended beyond 2015 there's always a chance they could reduce his 2015 cap cost with an extension. Unless his production declines dramatically this year or he suffers a severe injury I'm betting he'll finish his deal through 2015. After that who knows.

If Forte has another 1200+ K season and has near or + 10 TD's, I'd think they'd look to extend him 1 or 2 years, especially if they can keep his touches down b/c of the Carey pickup.

Again the RB that should be worried on this team right now should be Ford; the team just added 2 rb's that's not a screaming endorsement for their backup.

Everyone needs to calm down, Carey isn't taking Forte's job and quit acting like Jordan Lynch is some superstar saint. Carey came in to replace Michael Bush and Lynch will be used to situational plays. But I actually hope they convert Lynch to Safety rather than RB...

Geez zona I know you're digging the Carey thing but why in the blue hell would you want to want to convert a kid with Lynch's obvious skills as an offensive player into a Safety? What a waste. He could be a very versatile offensive weapon for the team if Trestman can cook up some inventive ways to use him and he also has the goods to take some of the tougher short yardage carries as well.

I don't think anyone is seeing Lynch as a superstar but he does have the potential to be a very good RB with a lot of interesting twists in how he can be used. Carey is only replacing Bush in the sense that we needed a less expensive alternative as a #2 RB whose skill set is more similar to Fortes and I think Carey is that kind of back. What he isn't is a battering ram short yardage or goaline back or a back who could execute a run option play in the red zone.

Lynch isn't coming on board to compete for the #2 spot as much as he is to compete with Ford for the #3 spot and as as a special situational player just as you posted. Still, he was a very productive college player in his own right and placed 3rd in the Heisman voting so he's not without some very real talent as a runner and a passer. There's room for both players.

agreed Carey was a nice pick, but the guy ran a 4.7 40, and apparently that's about how he plays. That isn't starting RB material in the NFL. He's a good signing but he's not a long term answer to replace Forte either. I loved the Lynch signing also, but he's still a UDFA that has to beat out Ford, and like you pointed out in the other thread, to do that he's going to have to contribute on ST's.

I don't think you'll see him converting to S though, he's best w/the ball in his hands and using his field vision to find lanes, not reading and reacting to plays.

I figure Lynch will be played both ways ala Red Grange (who played RB and was a dback).
We need to get this year's training camp urban legend going. I vote for Lynch......but we need a cool nickname for him :lol 027:

We have yet to see Carey take an NFL snap and we are writing him off as any hope of Forte's successor? Why don't we, ya know, let him play a year or two until we make that call. But for now, we have a fresh, talented backup to hopefully keep Forte's carries down. Barring a devastating injury and just falling off a cliff, Forte will be around for a while despite his contract. You need two Rbs that are able to contribute, and for now we have that.
