This has a feel of Chris Williams an J Webb competing at RT, is the winner really a winner for the team?

I can only hope Trestman is telling the truth that the team wants DJ back; b/c that at least solidifies the starter at ILB. It all but spells the doom fo Anderson coming back though; b/c one of the young guys is going to be the SAM this year.

And it could be argued that Anderson was the best LB on the field (maily because Briggs was hurt), but Anderson was on the field the entire year and had some pretty big numbers for a SAM LBer.

I'm torn on Anderson. He was indeed our best LB last season, but he's also the one responsible for srewing up that game against GB.

We were so freaking close, dammit! I still can't believe how dumb an NFL player can be.

We all know he's not a DE and the biggest word i took from this article is "compete"...hopefully that is the proper word and this regime doesn't just start handing out starting jobs for no reason...

I cant even keep track of all the LB's we have. Its a lot to say the least.

But those guys are doomed if we dont have a DL.

Offenses are going to blow past a geeky DL into LB and put all the pressure on DB.

And we are going to get our asses kicked like last year.

Rodgers to Cobb in the final game should be reported as a crime against humanity.

my problem is he and Bostic are right now competing for two positions, SAM/MIK so does the winner get MIK and the loser get SAM? What if they both suck at both positions?

I agree with Jackie...if we don't get the d-line situation squared away it won't matter who we have at linebacker. I still think Bostic could play the Mike, but thats just me.

Apparently Shea only moved to OLB in collge on rushing downs. It may not be as hard as we think to transition to NFL LB for him.

HOWEVER, like butkus said, we have no shot of having great LB play behind a shoddy line. That MUST be first to be fixed.

No the DL must be fixed, it does not have to be "fixed first". If you can get quality starting DL in the 2nd and 3rd(and you can this year) then you can fix other areas that cannot be had in those rounds first and still fix the DL to keep the OL off the LB's.

    1. You don't know that there is a great depth this year. That's why the draft is notoriously unpredictable

    2. You DO need to fix the defensive line first, because, as it should be intrinsically known at this point, your secondary won't be as effective as it could be with a second rate effort at fixing one of the worst (if not THE worst) defensive lines this team has ever fielded.

No actually DL is one of the deepest position this year, in what is considered a one of the all around deepest drafts. Nothing is a guarantee, everything is unpredictable, it's very possible that every linemen w/a 1st and 2nd round grade is gone before 14, so do we take a guy w/a 3rd round grade b/c we need to "fix th dl first"? No you take the guy that will make the team better first, and get the guy w/the 3rd round grade in the 3rd.

You DO NOT have to fix any one area 1st 2nd or 3rd, you just have to FIX the area. If a guys like Anthony Johnson and Kareem Martin are likely to be there in the 2nd to 4th when you are drafting, ie capable starting DT/DE, but you cannot find a capable starting CB/S in the those rounds, then you take capable starting CB in the 1st and grab those guys in the other rounds and you've now fixed 3 starting positions in the first 3 rounds instead of 1 or 2 b/c you had to "fix the DL first".

    Agree with Ric above.

But what happens if the highest rated TE or OL is there at #14? Don't you think it would be hard to pass on that???? I guess it depends on FA but I am getting nervous about the first pick with so many options!!

If they both suck then they better load up on pro-bowl D-linemen and Safeties...or it means i will pick the TE's and running backs that play the Bears in fantasy football lol

How about drafting a true middle linebacker in the first round. Our next Urlacher.
We need somebody who can tackle the runners who ran right through the line.

His pursuit speed and burst is really the only strength of his game as a DE, those should play well at LB where his experience and ability in engaging blockers should go from bad to plus. Maybe the second level will be the right place for him to attack blockers with an extra few steps to set up his lane move behind extra protection.

If the highest OT/TE were available and you still had the highest rated CB/FS I think you still do CB/FS. A ton will depend on FA no doubt.

CHICAGO BEARS Offense 2013 : Fifth highest scoring Offense in the NFL.

    CHICAGO BEARS Defense 2013 : 31 out of 32.

Gentlemen no matter what may come our way at #14 when it comes to offense ... its not broke.

    Whats broke is obvious.

BTW ... The highest scoring Offense of all time in the NFL got CREAMED by a REALLY good Defense in the SuperBowl.

Lets get back and rebuild our roots.
