Police said no alcohol was involved in the early-morning incident, according to the Lions. A message left with the Michigan State Police was not immediately returned.

Burleson, 32, has 19 receptions for 239 yards for the Lions (2-1). He is coming off his best game in a couple of seasons, catching six passes for 116 yards in a 27-20 win Sunday over Washington.

CBS Detroit is reporting the single-car crash occurred at 2:25 a.m. on I-696 in Farmington Hills, Mich. The website is also reporting that no ticket was issued.

Ken Sarnoff, Burleson's agent, told ESPN NFL Insider Ed Werder that his client broke his arm in two places. Sarnoff said the receiver had been watching "Monday Night Football" with teammates and crashed his SUV while driving home.

"We will provide appropriate updates when more information on Burleson's condition becomes available," the team said in a statement.

Lions running back Reggie Bush reacted to the news on Twitter.

Wow thoughts and prayers with my fallen teammate Nate Burleson wishing him a speedy recovery! Hate having to learn about this on ESPN

The Lions will likely turn to Ryan Broyles, who was active for the first time this season Sunday, to replace Burleson.

Burleson's injury comes a year after he broke his leg in a Monday night game against Chicago in October, an injury that resulted in him missing the final 10 games last season.

ESPN NFL Insider Ed Werder contributed to this report.

I never root for injury on players, but this is a big break for the Bears.

So apparently he was distracted by a pizza that was falling off the passenger car seat and he hit the median.

Reason #223499023 on why DEEP DISH is better. Extra weight makes it impossible for it to move around on a car seat.

Tough break (yes, intended) for a player that routinely causes issues for us. Want to beat them fair & square.

What I want to know is why he was reaching for the pizza? We're talking about Detroit pizza. That stuff isn't good for anything except mouse bait.
