Today is the 93rd anniversary of the Chicago Bears (and NFL's) very first game. The Staleys defeated the Moline Universal Tractors by a score of 20-0. The Bears (Staleys) would go on to win 5 of their first games, tying the 6th, win their next 4, and finish the season 10-1-2:

NFL was known as the American Professional Football Association (APFA) at the time.

    According to Wikipedia:

At least they have the honorable distinction of being the first team to play (and lose) to the Chicago Bears. (Staleys)

    ???

That would be surprising to me. Jimmors loves to debate things, but in all the years I've known him here, he doesn't hold grudges. Truly a stand up guy, even if he is wrong from time to time. ;)

In 1920 the Decatur Staleys shutout 10 of their 13 opponents in their first year of existence posting at 10-1-2 overall record. The team lost only once to the rival Chicago Cardinals 7-6. Each player was compensated $1,900 for the season.

During the the teams’ very first game against the Packers in 1921, Chicago’s John (Tarzan) Taylor threw a sucker punch that broke the nose of Packers tackle Howard Buck. It set the tone for all Packers-Bears matchups for years to come.

    thanks guys, classic photos.

    13 games, 21 points allowed, 1.6 per game.......and only good for 2nd.
Akron gave up just 7 in 11 games.
I wonder if even back then the "original" Bears defense was taking the criticism.

I think typical salaries were like $100 per game in the early 20's.
