My guess is that Tim Jennings comes back because of this.

I can understand a guy saying he just wants to retire. But if would like to extend his career, then moving from CB to safety is an option. Rob Woodson did it successfully. I don't think it is mandatory for Tillman next season, but if he hangs around, the safety/retire choice will come. I think he could be an outstanding free safety. Retire Conte!

    One more time.

Tillman (say it with me now)

DOES NOT WANT TO PLAY SAFETY.

If the Bears do not want to sign him to play CB, some other team likely will.

How many times does he have to say no when asked if he wants to move to safety?

I get that. Keep him at CB next season. Maybe safety in the future.

    There ya go

NO. He said on the radio on WSCR The Score the yesterday that he feels he has two years of playing CB left in him, then he will retire.

There will be NO playing of safety for him.

That is good news. I thought he might have wanted to hang them up. Hopefully he wants to stay with the bears and we can agree on a price.

Maybe. But then he will have the next two years to reconsider. In football, two years is an eternity. Like anybody else, keep him as long as he can get the job done, then cut him loose if he'd rather retire than play safety.

Tillman knows what he wants, and will do what he wants.

He said he wants to watch his kids grow up, so in two years he will retire. I have no doubts on that. He does not need the money, he has gotten paid quite well.

If the Bears do not want to pay him to play CB, someone else likely will.

    Easy concept

Like I say, take it one year at a time. I think he's good enough to play another season.

And if a team thinks he has another season or two of CB in him, he will. But when he says he does not want to play safety, I am taking him at his word. He has more than enough credibility that I trust him.

I take his word for how he feels today. Play him another year at CB. See how he feels about it after next season and how well he can still play. Meanwhile, draft a CB if we can get a good one. I wouldn't count on Tillman staying healthy for 16 games next year.

    Neither would I.

But I take him at his word for not wanting to play safety. If he ever gets to the point where he cannot continue to play the position, I feel he will retire
