There has been only two padded practices and only five total practices, but with Twitterverse and all kinds of articles breaking down practice it has been easy to follow along and see the players who have stood out early.

Since the Bears first hit the practice field last Thursday, every drill has been under the Twitter microscope and WCG has been there afterward to round up all the best bits into a neat little package for easy digestion.
Both the defense and offense have had some highlights and lowlights but certain names keep popping up as playmakers.
Yes, it is only five days into training camp, yes Trestman's practice style calls for no hitting, but that doesn't mean that the following players shouldn't be on your radar heading into preseason games. I've chosen players whose names I see pop up often and who are mostly locked into position battles.
    Players are listed alphabetically:
James Brown - Brown is competing with first-round pick Kyle Long at RG. He was very raw last year and appears ready to step up in his second season. Still a long way to go but this might be the must-watch camp battle so far. Evidence. Tweet support.
Kyle Long - The man Brown is competing with has impressed early in camp. Splitting time with Brown and playing with the ones on the right side. He could get forced into action because of his draft position or he could continue to impress and actually earn his playing time. Stay tuned. Evidence. More tweet support. And one more.
Fendi Onobun - The tight end is running with the twos and early reports seem to be that he is finally coming into his own after spending his first couple years bouncing around teams. Evidence. More evidence.
Marquees Wilson - The seventh round receiver has been impressive making catches and burning up with the third stringers. Keep an eye on him to see if he gets reps with the second team. Evidence. More. More.
Corey Wootton - The fourth-year pro, entering his contract season, has impressed the Twitter report. He's even taken over the swing role Israel Idonije played last season. Tweet. Tweet. Tweet. Tweet.
Those are just the names that stuck out to me. Second-year receiver Alshon Jeffery has been the subject of several highlights as well but big things are expected from him, I'm trying to find slightly lesser-known, less-experienced players to keep an eye on.
Who has stuck out to you from Twitter reports or otherwise?

How nice is it that you have 2 young OL impressing in camp, and 3 young WR's impressing in camp, and a young TE.

I couldn't find it, but there is a article about Wootton on the MMQB subsite of SI.com. The writer rode to Bourbanis w/Wootton and they talked, and he said that no one fully understands just how messed up his college knee injury was and that it took 2 full years to fully recover. I'm glad that we have him and Shea as up an comers(I know I'm not as high on Shea as some but I do hope for the best, and think if he's just not a DE he stands a good chance of doing good things).

Corey Wootton will be huge for us this year. You heard it here. Link to Ric's article --> http://mmqb.si.com/2013/07/26/corey-wootton-training-camp/

Isiah Frey & Joe Anderson - these are two guys I'm expecting to step up and are the guys to watch in camp. (Too many J. Andersons on the roster - I can't keep 'em straight)

Marquess Wilson has a great deal of raw talent but that's just it. He's raw. I expect to see him on the practice squad this year, and be in the pipeline for next year.

I'm more interested in hearing about the second year players, then I am about the rookies. How has Brandon Hardin been doing? Is Brown really beating out Long, and is that expected to continue into the regular season? The little I've heard about Jeffery and McClellin sounds good but I have not really heard that much about the latter...

Just some random musings. Feels good to have some articles and videos to explore (I've been procrastinating).

Brown and Long are in a very real and legit competition. I think both, regardless of who starts are going to be starting at G next year for the Bears. When Long isn't w/the 1's, he's playing RG w/the 2's and 3's. When Brown isn't w/the 1's he's playing LG w/the 2's.
Trestman also stated he's floating the idea of playing w/a 6man rotation....could that be w/Long and Brown at G or Scott and Webb at T?

He kind of looks like that one O-lineman we had who played on our Superbowl team in 2007. I think he was drafted by the Chiefs.

Shark, I hope you're spot on about Frey. We really need some depth at CB. I'm hoping C. J. Wilson from NC State shows well too. We live in Wolf Pack country & my daughter starts there next month.

Anyone hearing anything good about Shea? Is he just ok, or is he showing any flashes of first round draft?

BIH, this is from Bleacher Report via ESPN. Not much to go on but at least it's something.

[IMG]Dennis Wierzbicki/US PresswireKelvin Hayden knows his role better this season, and his comfort level is obvious.
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- Veteran defensive back Kelvin Hayden avoided the injury problems last year that had haunted him in previous stops in Indianapolis and Atlanta. But Hayden never seemed to find his groove last season for the Bears as he bounced back-and-forth from cornerback to nickel back.

But there is no mistaking Hayden's role this summer in Bourbonnais. Hayden is the clear cut No. 1 nickel back on the roster, and has been working exclusively at the position since he signed a one-year deal to the return to the Bears in late March.

Chris Conte and Major Wright, calling it a "great group". Depending on the number of safeties the Bears end up keeping on the 53-man roster, there could be difficult decisions to make between reserves Craig Steltz, Anthony Walters, Brandon Hardin, Tom Nelson, Tom Zbikowski and Cyhl Quarles.

Hardin is the ultimate wildcard since the 2012 third-round draft choice hasn't played in a meaningful game in two years. Hoke was extremely positive when discussing Hardin, saying he's "seen growth from Hardin" from last year to this summer.

However, preseason games will likely be the best way to determine Hardin's fate with the team.
    • Shea McClellin had a quick burst off the ball on Monday and repeatedly won his one-on-one matchups coming off the edge.
    • Filling in for Brandon Marshall (hip) on the first-team offense, second-year wideout Joe Anderson made a leaping touchdown catch between defenders in a red zone drill at the onset of practice.
    • Members of the Michigan State coaching staff visited the team and observed Monday's practice session.
    • Rookie Kyle Long showcased his physical prowess on the first day the team donned pads, but made some mental mistakes. Long made a few more mental mistakes on Monday, but that's to be expected from a rookie who missed virtually the entire offseason program.

You're welcome? BearJim posted that article about Shea I am assuming that is what you are talking about BiH.

No worries, glad to be of assistance. I read somewhere on here that Shea has been whipping up on Webb a bit today with a spin move or 2. I know it's Webb but it's still good to hear!

Well just remember...Wooton is a gem that Angelo found. He was coming out of NW with a serious knee injury. All the pre-draft publications had him rated as a top 20 pick. He was considered a potential Justin Tuck type of DE if he fully recovered. He could be the guy that makes our D-Line dangerous.

They do however need Paea to live up to his 2nd status. That joker was dominant at Oregon but he simply has not made the same impact on the Bears. he's got to step up.

The guy did get injured. I read last year that he couldn't bend his leg during his rookie year.

Mr D, good read on Paea, and I heard last night that he has looked dominant. He was asked about it and said that he's bigger and faster then ever, and the radio hosts(JD has been at all the camp hosted) said he has been hard to move off the line.

Hell there's so many new ones I'm gonna watch all of them. I have a feeling we're gonna see some significant roster turnover this year and next. Probably the best thing I can see so far is that the level of competition is better than it has been in the past. More FA vets and better rookies and second year guys competing for roster spots. That should produce better starters and better depth.
