I found this interesting. It explains some reasons why the D was doomed from the start last season. Maybe none of the mess was Mel's fault after all. This goes beyond just making the injury excuse.

Yeah, and if the defense gets significantly better, I'm going to throw that in everyone's faces for saying Tucker was the problem. After re-stocking the defense, and if they can avoid injury, we'll have a better idea of what Tucker's vision is going to be. Either way, it's not going to be as hard to fix as it usually would be, considering our RB was #2 in rushing, our receivers are best in the league and even our backup QB had starter numbers.

I like the sound of it. Give me tough and hungry any day, but please...make sure they have talent as well.

Since Emery says the D will be younger in 14, I assume the bulk of the new faces n the D will be via the draft (or UDFA). Not saying we won't get a player or two in FA. So I guess we will have a very young developing unit on D.

The new positional coaches will really have to show they know how to teach and develop young players.

Lets see what FA and the draft bring, then we'll have a better idea of what Tucker wants. I' m pretty positive it's not a oft injured, old, historically bad system.
