What's the rotation like in Seattle? Stats can be misleading. Has Bennett played as many stats as Pep has? If not, well than even though his stats are not the same, they may be more impressive. You're also not getting someone better than Pep for less than what Pep makes.

Bennett was only listed as the Starter for 3 games this last Season, so I would say that you are right he seems to be more of a situational guy. Even more reason to be concerned about the lack of ability to get 10 or more sacks.

You do realize that Pep is scheduled to make 18 million this year. I'm pretty sure that there are a couple of guys out there capable of doing more than Pep for a LOT less.

If he was part of a rotation, in which he wasn't the starter why should I be concerned he couldn't get more than 10 sacks? As for Pep and his salary...how much do you think Greg Hardy is going to cost? Further, if we release Pep, we still have to eat part of his salary...it's not like the whole thing can go towards a new DE. Bennet, for the money available is a pretty good replacement and younger than Pep, who odds are won't get better next year as he reaches age 35.

For context, and why you should want Michael Bennett take a look at this:

Julius Peppers: 46 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 2 FF, 1 FR- played 851 of 1,042 defensive snaps for a 81.7% participation rate

    Michael Bennett: 31 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 1 FF, 1 FR-played 598 of 1,042 defensive snaps for a 57.4% participation rate.

Which player would you rather have? The one who is younger and could get more sacks on 25% less snaps or the one who is older and couldn't get more sacks on 25% more snaps?

Butkus, but Bennett is going to be in as a rusher only, so his sacks should be higher, Pep is a 3 down DE, he's not coming off the field, and he's having to defend the rush, something Bennett doesn't have to do. MBennet to this point isn't looked on as a starter, so why pay him to be ours?

Without a break down of which downs and distances he was in on it is impossible to say whether he was a pass rush specialist or just part of a rotation. I'm going to say it was more of a rotation situation by looking at the d-line's snap count. If you look at it, no d-lineman on the SeaHawks played more than 58% of their snaps. To me that says they had a steady rotation of players and it wasn't necessarily down and distance dependent. In fact Michael Bennett has the highest snap participation rate on the Sea Hawks of all their d-lineman.

I have no idea, but I'd love to know since he's #1 on my FA wish list.

Hah...you and a lot of other people...including NFL GM's. I have a feeling Carolina may franchise him.

I read a FA report on him, I'll have to find it later on tonight, but I thought it said something about the reason he wasn't starting was b/c his rush D was suspect. I'll look something up but Im home w/the kids today so it won't be soon; I well could be wrong about that, I've looked at a lot of FA DL's.
