Ravens' Ray Rice will be suspended two games by NFL

The league has weighed in on the fate of Ray Rice.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that the Baltimore Ravens running back will be suspended for the first two games of the regular season under the NFL's personal conduct policy, per a source informed of the league's plans.
The ban comes in response to Rice allegedly striking his then-fiancée and now wife, Janay, unconscious in February in Atlantic City. The couple was arrested on simple assault charges, but Rice was able to avoid prosecution after being accepted into a pre-trial intervention program.
The 27-year-old runner spent the offseason getting back into the type of shape that once made him one of the most versatile backs in the game. He's down 20 pounds from his bulky 2013 playing weight, but that won't help the team out of the gate.
The suspension will keep Rice out of the lineup for Baltimore's season-opening tilts against the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers. The seventh-year back will be eligible to suit up in time for the team's Week 3 tilt with the Cleveland Browns.
Rice's absence means a larger load for a now-healthy Bernard Pierce early in the year. The Ravens also plan to use Justin Forsett in a backfield that should remain a committee even after Rice returns to the fold.

So apparently spiking the football in the end zone after scoring a TD is big no no, but spiking your girlfriend's head against the hotel floor is okay.

Another of Roger Goodell's great decisions. How can anyone take the guy seriously?

2 be fair, 4 game suspension for testing positive is after the 2nd or 3rd offense and a, at best, uneducated response to this. And yes 2 games is to low, BUT no lawsuit, no charges filed, if it wasn't for the video this would be much like Marshal's past problems, how many games was he suspended for?

He would have been suspended a whole year if he called his wife a redskin.

For Ray to be suspended only two games. A slap on the wrist. As well as one for the league.
You can suspend Josh Gordon for the year, but Ray for two games.
    Which is really a tragedy!

I think there is more to the video that we have not seen and that is why he has a low suspension. We really don't know what exactly happened in the elevator. I am sure he will get a nice welcoming on the road this season.

Gordon is a multi time offender; Rice 1x.

Again how many times was Marshal suspended when he got physical w/his girlfriend/wife? People see the video and that changes things ,but the reality is that no charges were filed and that matters.

Assault, Battery, Domestic Abuse is illegal in every state. Yet gets less of a penalty for that which is legal in many states. Sometimes it just seems the NFL is behind the times.

I'm sure there's no Baltimore RAVENS influence in all of this . Yeah RIGHT . Important team = lower penalty .
If Rice was a Jag , it woulda been 4 games .

I truly beleive IF she had filed charges the suspension would have been A LOT longer. She didn't; again look at Brandon, he had multiple domestic abuse issues, but never any charges filed, and no suspension at all.

I agree but they are sending a bad message. Wonder if womens rights groups will get in an uproar over this one.

If they are, they'll get drowned out, this is pretty low on the rung. Apparently Rice's now wife begged the NFL to go easy on him....again no lawsuit, no charges filed, and the wife asked for lieancy.

Might not be right, but it is what it is....Should have been 4-5 games, but only b/c it was on video.

So did anyone know that Rice's now wife has admitted to hitting him first? Whoopie on the view pointed this out, and I hadn't known that. Not saying he should have hit her full strength and knocked her out, but the reality is if she did hit him first, then he's the victim of assault, not the assaulter, and he was defending himself, and 2 games is probably more on point then I had originally guessed.
