The biggest story in Cleveland Browns camp is the quarterback battle between Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer, but the organization added another arm to the mix Tuesday.
According to the Browns' official Twitter account, the team signed veteran signal-caller Rex Grossman:

This comes just one day after Grossman was among a trio of quarterbacks worked out by the Miami Dolphins, per Pro Football Talk:

Miami decided to sign Brady Quinn, but Grossman still landed on his feet and has a great chance to earn a roster spot in Cleveland. Aside from Manziel, Hoyer and Grossman, the only other quarterback on the Browns' roster currently is undrafted rookie Connor Shaw.
With Manziel being a rookie in his own right and Hoyer coming off an ACL tear, the Browns would benefit from keeping an experienced third passer like Grossman. The University of Florida product has been much maligned since being drafted 22nd overall by the Chicago Bears in 2003, but he has had some success at the NFL level.
Will Rex Grossman make the Browns' roster?

Yes, they'll keep him around as an insurance policy. No, they'll turn to Connor Shaw or simply carry two quarterbacks. Submit Vote vote to see results

Grossman led the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2006 and threw a career-high 23 touchdown passes that year. He has since played for the Houston Texans and Washington Redskins. The latter fact is an important one since he will be reunited with former Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Cleveland.
According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, agent Drew Rosenhaus believes that makes Cleveland an ideal destination for his client.
"Rex is excited to work with Kyle Shanahan again. This is a great fit for him," Rosenhaus said.
Grossman obviously hasn't lived up to his potential in the NFL, but he has been a capable backup who hasn't ruffled feathers. In fact, Chris Russell of ESPN980 in Washington enjoyed his opportunities to speak with the former Redskin:

There is almost no chance that Grossman will play his way into the starting conversation with the Browns, but he will add depth and perhaps push Manziel and Hoyer to perform even better in practice.
If injuries or poor play plague the Browns during the regular season, though, Grossman will be waiting in the wings.
This is essentially a no-downside signing for Cleveland, and it could be beneficial for someone like Manziel to learn from a quarterback who understands the pressures of being a first-round pick.

Notice how the only guy that wants him is in the entire NFL is Kyle Shanahan? Tried out in Miami and they took freaking Quinn over him...but Kyle jumped all over the chance to have Rexy teach his young qb's how to throw int's and passes into the dirt.

In this instance the apple fell REAL far from the tree.
