The Bears must have felt the safeties in this draft were not top-tier talents. And that's what we read (that it's not a great draft for safety talent). Fuller, on the other hand, may be seen as a top-tier talent who can solidly replace Peanut - our Pro Bowl CB. If that's the case, then what's not to like about this pick?

Emery is probably seeing the defense rebuilding effort as a two year project. And we may ultimately need to top-tier starting CB's brought in during that time frame since our guys are both past 30 years old now. Today we got our first of the two. If it's a mediocre year for safeties, why reach for one in the 1st round that in other years might be considered a 2nd round talent? At least I hope this is the reasoning because I did really like Pryor.

The bottom line is Clinton-Dix and Pryor obviously weren't worthy of the #14 pick.

13 teams before the Bears and 4 teams after them (and 8 teams after them in the case of Clinton-Dix) felt the same way.

Word is that the Steelers were going to take Fuller at #15 if the Bears didn't take him.

Heard from my Eagles friend that the Eagles LOVED Fuller. As did Pittsburgh.

Emery said in his presser that there isn't a person in the building that doesn't love Kyle Fuller.

Or they didn't see much difference between Dix, Pryor & the perceived "2nd tier" of safeties, like Bucanon, Ward & others. Tomorrow will probably answer that question.

In the end, I figure I'm just going to trust Emery. I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing the rest of his draft & how this will all come together with his FA acquisitions this off-season. I think this defense is going to be significantly improved this year, and with better depth at most positions.

Dennard just got picked. I never could make up my mind whether or not I would pick Fuller over Dennard or Dennard over Fuller. I still can't decide :-)

But I do think Fuller will be a good CB as will be Dennard.

At this point, this means a S and DT as what we still need to upgrade on D. I wonder who will still be there at 51.

I'm really curious too. It looks like the DT position is fairly deep in this draft. I wasn't crazy about Donald anyway.
