I think Sanchez would be a waste of a roster spot. Trestman is a qb guru but can he work his magic on every qb? Idk. McCown had a great work ethic and was a team leader working with the younger guys in camp. He was respected. Would Sanchez be able to gain respect in the locker room with his attitude? I doubt it. Trestman and Cutler need to keep working together and the backup needs to be a self motivated guy, like Palmer. I would rather Trestman work with a young draft pick that Palmer can also mentor.

Or we could go for youth. This guy is going to forgo his final year of pre-school to enter the draft this year. Emery ought to jump on this one in the 6th round.

Get 'em young and let Trestman and Cavanaugh develop 'em. Best way to go I say. Will the NFL OK a 25 year contract for this kid?

Good point. Apparently he did some work with Bortles before his pro day and that performance bumped Bortles to the head of the class. Just because Palmer hasn't played much doesn't mean he's not a sharp guy who can play is this system. He looked good in preseason last year in the brief time he played. Hell, even McCown didn't look good the year before Trestman arrived. We'll bring in some other guys but they won't be guys looking for what Sanchez is looking for.

It was pointed out that he dated Cutlers wife for awhile, and he didn't exactly get along w/Cavanaugh in NJ, so even if the money was right I don't think this is the place he's going to land.

The back-up QB becomes significant every year in Chicago during the Jay Cutler era, and we've been treated to the likes of Caleb Hanie, Tod Collins, & Jason Campbell. We finally got it right with McCown, and you knew it couldn't last. Jordan Palmer doesn't fill me with confidence, but then neither does Sanchez, who would likely want more dough than Palmer. So Palmer probably will suck, but he'll suck for less than Sanchez would.

Sanchez will probably opt for the Rams.

I agree. What I'm hoping is that we can get someone in place like McCown so that our season won't end when Jay gets his annual injury and misses games. If Palmer is that guy then great. Only Trestman really knows what he can get out of these options at QB. We don't.

I just don't want us to have to fold up the tent for the season when Jay goes down. I'll bet Trestman will have a viable option in place that won't cost too much money. My gut feeling is that Palmer is not that guy. Palmer is probably just a "placeholder" in case we don't land someone a bit better.

It would be nice to have a young guy who can learn slowly and eventually take over in a couple of years
