Jay's mechanics looked a bit off all day. The groin was clearly bothering him. We have one of the best backup QB's in the NFL right now. Why on earth didn't Trestman start McCown?

When you figure that one out, let me know. That game was ours.

I thought Jay looked good in the first half. Once he started limping and rubbing his groin we should have pulled him. McCown is not a better qb, but he is playing pretty good and certainly more consistent than a hurt Jay Cutler.

The defense did it's job today. They held a high-powered offense to a meager 21 points. Jay was our Achilles heal today. If McCown starts this game we win and take over the division. Instead, we have the Packer trying to give us the division this year - and we can't beat the Lions. Heartbreaking :-(

Jay's QB rating was in the 60's
    McCown's rating was 123.4

on this day, this mistake was the clear difference between a W & a L.
I'm not suggesting that Jay played poorly. He just didn't make enough plays in crucial situations, the plays that #12 has consistently made the past 2 weeks.
a real shame, considering the fine defensive effort put in today. This combined with the 4th and 1 gamble that likely left 3 on the board, coaching lost this game.

Trestman is a dolt at in-game management. Terrible Shoop-esque wastes of drives, leaving in a clearly lame and ineffective Jay, the FG, the draw on a 2 point conversion, the bootleg the play before...

Hopefully Trestman learns from this. He strikes me as the kind of guy who will.

What? Trestman has done an excellent job at managing games until now. He constantly changes up his playcalls to keep defenses guessing, and the bears have had many long, scoring drives, both under Jay and Josh.

Calling draw plays, flats and screens for half the game after successfully stretching Ds right off the bat is not a positive change-up. He called a FUCKING LAME BOOT FOLLOWED BY A DRAW ON TWO CHANCES AT A 2-POINT CONVERSION. He clearly has an amazing playbook, but he wastes so many fucking drives. The guy is 50-50 at best in management. This loss is entirely on his shoulders.

I'm thinking that Trestman will be the first to admit that he needs to do better than he did today. Trestman's a good coach, but will probably have a bit of a learning curve as an NFL head coach. Today was an example. He made two mistakes today:

    1. He made a mistake letting an injured QB start today, when he had one of the best backup QB's in the league this season w/McCown. McCown is playing amazing ball right now. There was no need to start an injured Jay.
    2. He made some play calling mistakes. It happens. But he knows he needed to do better today.

Agreed. However Trestman didn't help either with going for it on 4 & 1 instead of just going for 3.

Shouldn't have started McCown, JC's first drive was a TD, and he looked good until sometime in the 2nd when he looked to have a bad knuckle and grabbed his groin. THAT's when McCown should have came in.

The game wasn't televised where I live , so I can't really comment about specific events , but I thought it was a bad idea to start cutler in the first place. I hope nothing was reaggrivated.

McCown should've came in when Cutler was clearly showing signs that he was hurt.

His throwing motion looked off to me from the beginning, even though we had a great first score. Maybe I'm imagining it, but it was my first thought watching the game. I agree though, at the very worst he should have pulled Jay from the game earlier. I will always believe that McCown starting = win today, and we would be a game up on both Green Bay and Detroit. Losing this game really hurts.

I missed the opening drive. But what I took away from that 1st qtr, is that even hurt Cutler can make throws that stretch the field that McCown just cannot. McCown can dink and dunk w/the best of them, but he cannot stretch the field, which means there was no way to take advantage of a Def that was stacking the box to shut down the Run, and no way to get them out of it.

But yes they needed to pull him at 1/2 time.

Jay had a GREAT first half for a QB that wasn't 100% ready. So, no he should have NOT started McCown.

McCown should have come in the 3rd quarter, yes. We can all agree on that.

I agree LilB, hell the guy had a td, and a int, but was at 60%+ comp % and every drive was over 3min's. the O was moving the ball well against a really stout D.
