http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000236936/article/vince-young-released-by-green-bay-packers Vince Young released by Green Bay Packers It turns out that the release of Graham Harrell wasn't enough to save Vince Young in Green Bay. The Packers released Young on Saturday, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported, per a source informed of the transaction. Young later confirmed the move on Twitter. Vince Young ✔ @VinceYoung Thanks to the @packers for the opportunity great organization great team wonderful fans good luck this season. The news comes as a small surprise. Young received a lot of snaps in the preseason and during practice while the Packers evaluated whether or not he could be the primary backup to Aaron Rodgers. Instead, B.J. Coleman now is the only other quarterback on Green Bay's roster. Young was out of the NFL last season, and this looked like his last, best chance to resurrect his career. The Packers could bring Young back after Week 1 when his salary isn't guaranteed, but that sounds like a long shot. Coleman didn't particularly play well during the preseason or training camp. Our best guess: Green Bay's backup quarterback is not on the roster. -------------------- This is a surprise if you ask me. Sure, VY wasn't the best option but you're talking about releasing a QB with experience and not to mention a winning record. Plus he gives you an added dimension if Rodgers goes down. The offensive line better protect Rodgers or the Packers could have a big problem soon.
