    Marquess Wilson has fractured collarbone.
BOURBONNAIS -- Chicago Bears wide receiver Marquess Wilson suffered a broken clavicle Monday during practice and will be sidelined indefinitely..

The 2013 seventh-round pick had been listed as the Bears' third wide receiver on the preseason depth chart .

"It's extremely disappointing," Bears coach Marc Trestman said. "He was continuing to ascend."

Wilson was carted off the practice field after suffering the injury while diving for a deep pass.

General manager Phil Emery announced Tuesday that the Bears have fined and suspended tight end Martellus Bennett an undetermined length of time for conduct detrimental to the team.

Bennett was involved in an altercation with rookie cornerback Kyle Fuller late in Monday’s practice. Bennett caught a pass just shy of the goal line. Fuller appeared to attempt to force a fumble but instead hooked Bennett by his shoulder pad and spun him to the ground.

An incensed Bennett jumped to his feet, grabbed the rookie and slammed him down. Several teammates on both sides of the ball intervened and order was quickly restored. But coach Marc Trestman opted to end practice at that point with a walkthrough period.

“Last night we made a decision to fine and suspend Martellus Bennett for an undetermined length of time,” Emery told reporters. “This is a process we’re working with Martellus. We are in contact with him. Our goal is to have Martellus back as soon as possible. He’s a very loved and respected teammate. We want him back, but it’s a process we have to work through.”

Bennett will remain on the active roster, but he is away from the team and will not participate in any team activities at this point. Asked how the decision to discipline Bennett was reached, Emery said: “As we always do, we work through as a staff collectively and hear everybody out and we reached a conclusion that this is the best course of action.”

To fill the final vacant spot on their 90-man roster, the Packers have added wide receiver Gerrard Sheppard. Sheppard was claimed off of waivers from the Baltimore Ravens.

With the addition, Green Bay now has a total of 11 wide receivers. It's unclear whether Sheppard was claimed to account for Jeff Janis' absence, which head coach Mike McCarthy described as "a little different" in Wednesday's press conference.

At 6-2 and 211 lbs., Sheppard possesses a similar build to many of his new receiver teammates. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2013, spending the year on the Ravens' practice squad. Prior to that, he played two years at Towson, a Division I FCS program. Sheppard has been issued jersey no. 9.

On the surface, the move would seem to extinguish whatever hope Jermichael Finley still had for a return with the Packers. The team removed his nameplate from the locker room earlier this week.

    Bears Camp Report: Day 11

The battle for the No. 2 tight end spot is intensifying with all the candidates receiving more repetitions because of Martellus Bennett’s indefinite suspension, and there’s a chance incumbent Dante Rosario could be unseated.

Zach Miller and Matthew Mulligan appear to be making the strongest pushes for the spot, but Jeron Mastrud has impressed, too.

“We have way more depth than we did last year,” offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer said. “We have blockers. We have receivers. We have some combination guys at the F position, which is usually the second TE coming into the game.”

Mulligan is perhaps the best blocker, while Miller seems to be the team’s best receiving tight end outside of Bennett. With the heat bearing down from the competition, Rosario has picked up his game, too.

Chris Williams spent time Wednesday taking snaps with the first-team offense as the slot receiver.

One highlight from the Marty suspension is the increased repetitions Zach Miller, Matt Mulligan, Jeron Mastrud and Dante Rosario have received in his absence. From the sounds of this ESPN training camp report, we have another much needed battle taking place for the back-up tight-end role.

Tight end was one of the holes left unfilled following the mad grab time of free agency and the draft. I know a lot of people on this forum were upset that the Bears didn't take anyone in the draft to bolster the depth at this position, and now, with the suspension of Bennett, it's clear why. Let's just hope the four people competing for that back-up role are showing promise. It seems like they might be.

Time to dig out the rulebook ...

If we line up with Marshall at split and Weems/Wilson/Williams at slot and Jeffry at flanker, along with Bennett and Miller at TE ...

and Jordan Lynch in the backfield to take the snap at shotgun ...

is it NFL legal ? I dunno.

We have the two TE set. Benett and Miller.

This is the news we have been waiting for.

    Once again : a splayed spread of , ..

    Marshall - Weems/Wilson/Williams - Jeffry

    Bennett - Miller.

    JCut - Lynch

I'll put SIX in there ... and the OL.

    I'll humbug your ass.
