We have an outstanding backup QB right now. I never dreamed he could be this solid for us.

Cutty's a little too aggressive in this offense.

We would have lost with game with Lovie/Tice/Martz. IMO McCown is the perfect QB for the WCO.

Just goes to show that Trestman is a QB whisperer. With his offense and playcalling, combined with a solid OL and suitable weapons (Marsh, AJ, TBU, Forte), Trestman can work wonders with just about any QB. Cutler's value is going down by the week.

Cutler may not be the right fit for the Trestman system. We shall see how he does when he comes back.

I think a new previously unthought of QB option has emerged.

We thought our options were FT for Cutler, long term contract, or go fish for a rook. I think we now also have the option of signing McCown again. Whether it would be as #1, or #2, I definitely support signing McCown again.

I guess it's not complicated. Bottom line is that when the QB doesn't turn the ball over - you usually win. On the other hand, a "gunslinger" who gives the ball away in big games can kill you.

Um, no. That's just an excuse for his always trying to make "the big play".

I hope. McCown put on a clinic for Jay to learn that you gotta protect the ball to beat the good teams like Green Bay. Good things happen if you don't give the ball to the other team all night.

Um, yes. Poor QB play is only amplified when your D is playing crappy. If they are getting Pick 6s and Takeaways, then the bad QB play is not as much a problem.

On a serious note, these are the type games where Jay has fallen apart. He's embarrassed himself playing Green Bay in prime time games. On the same stage, tonight, McCown kept his focus playing smart football - protecting the football. Jay could be a GREAT quarterback if he could learn to do likewise.

After reading a million posts on the Cutler love/hate feelings, I think this short post above sums up my thoughts completely. I do agree Cutler is too aggressive for this offense. Thank you for that post.

Ya Trestman is absolutely a lifesaver for this franchise. He has made Cutler look better, but like Henry said, Cutler is still too agressive and it creates problems b/c it puts the D back on the field to often, and they aren't good enough to have that happen. Trestman, as he's always done has somehow made a qb like McCown look legitimate. Emery has to take a qb early and let this guy coach them up, regardless of Cutler being resigned, FT'd or whatever. If Trestman can do so much w/qb's then a rookie qb is the only way to go b/c of how cap friendly they are.

Cutler is having a career year and is still leaps and bounds better that McCown in this offense.

Cutler has shown the uncharacteristic ability to protect the ball and make smart decisions in Trestman's offense this season.

I'm an out of town guy so all I get is the national perspective and the consensus in places like NFL Network and ESPN is that Cutler has shown the ability many times this season to protect the ball and make smarter throws.

McCown has two good games and all of a sudden, everyone forgets how good of a year Cutler was having.

I said this in another thread and I'll say it again here:

Josh McCown is doing his best Rich Gannon 2.0 Impression thanks to Trestman.
MCown is living proof that Trestman really is the QB Guru/Whisperer.

With that said, Cutler has better physical tools that McCown and he needs more time in Trestman's offense to show what he can do before we pass judgement on him. (Cutty was having a career year in only 7 games thus far)

We need to re-sign Cutler and and also re-sign McCown as our backup in 2014.
