Bears rookie linebacker Bostic fined $21,000 for hit

    By Brad Biggs
    Chicago Tribune reporter
    7:33 a.m. CDT, August 21, 2013

The hit Chicago Bears rookie linebacker Jon Bostic put on a San Diego wide receiver fired up an entire sideline last Thursday night at Soldier Field.

The most lasting effect will be felt by Bostic, though. Teammate Lance Briggs announced via his Twitter account Wednesday morning that the NFL fined Bostic $21,000 for the hit on Chargers wide receiver Mike Willie.

The big shot dislodged the ball from Willie.

No suprise, the NFL is trying to remove head injuriesA(b/c of the current lawsuit and to prevent future lawsuits).
Cowheard said the league is trying to get guys to tackle low, they would rather have leg inj's then head inj's. So a tackle w/a lowered head that conects to any part of another players helmet is going to get you fined.

I don't know how you can make a game as rough as football safe to play without taking away from the game. I realize that there does need to be some rules but how far do you go before you start infringing on individual players talent. People who play football know the risks that are involved.

MD, it wasn't a totally clean hit. His head was down, he hit him w/the crown the helmet and that hit the WR's facemask, that is not a CLEAN hit in every shape way or form.

Again, this all goes back to the lawsuit of the former players and brain/concussions issues. They have to do this to eliminate the chance of future lawsuits and to show they are not neglagent towards their workers.

His head was to inside the shoulder pad using the forehead of helmet not the crown and it looked mean because it was a blindside hit. No penalty because that what the ref saw. It just like the block from receivers would put on LB on cut back block and the LB wouldn't see it coming. It ended up being a head hunting snapback block. It was legal but man it would destroy a LB.

So they'd rather tackle low and cause gruesome leg injuries like Dustin Keller last week. Yeah, makes perfect sense.

I'm telling you, the current NFL administration is more and more ruining the game. Fvck Goodell and his team of pusssies.

Yeah, could you imagine what would have happen if he put that hit on his left lead leg?

BS. Total BS. Are defenders going to have to stop in their tracks and identify a legal "strike zone" they can hit before making contact? Might as well not have any defenders at all.

    :10_4_1[1]:

We need more angry frownies. (not smilies - I'm not smiling with this BS fine).

Crown of the helmet hit, pure and simple that is, by the NFL's definition, dangerous for both the defender and the O player...and ya that hit the facemask. Could he hvae done anything to avoid it, not sure, but that is today's NFL that is very consious of concusions and their legal repercussions.

I hadn't seen this angle before, but the contact to the facemask is only because of the whiplash effect from the hit.

The rule is, now, head up when making contact for both the offensive and defensive player. Bostic is the example being set of the new rule. Nothing more, nothing less.

    21 k. That is stupid x10.

At some point, however, part of the blame for making the league into the pussified version it is becoming has to come back to those suing the league. Just like all the fraudulent and worthless litigation that drives insurance and medical treatment higher and higher, the suits from former players makes the league have to do this shit. Football is a dangerous, rough, contact sport. If you don't want to play or take risks with your body, for which you will be rewarded rather handsomely, take your panties and go home.

Should this not be the C'Mon Man of the Pre-Season?! Fined $21k?!?
I've watched the hit several times (And I jump up and start a parade each time) and it is a text book tackle. Sure it's jarring (Which is the point!!!) but I just don't see the fine.
