The Chicago Bears signed safety Sean Cattouse to the practice squad on Tuesday, and terminated the practice squad contract of running back Harvey Unga.

A Chicago native and Hubbard High School alum, Cattouse (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) came into the NFL last season with the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of the University of California, where he was a three-time All-Pac 12 selection.

Cattouse played in 49 games for Cal with 26 starts, collecting 185 tackles, seven interceptions and 17 pass breakups. Cattouse also contributed seven tackles for lost yardage, two sacks and a pair of fumble recoveries.

The Bears worked out Cattouse on Sept. 17, according to a league source.

Unga joined the Bears in 2010 as a supplemental draft pick out of Brigham Young University, but spent his rookie season on injured reserve. Then in 2011, Unga left the team for personal reasons, before spending all of last season on the practice squad.

In four seasons with the Bears, Unga never played in a regular-season game.

    Noooooooooooooo!

How can the Bears win a SB w/out the Great Harvey Unga!

The team is trying to address needs, they need Safeties, so why not see what this S has to offer? I also heard they worked out Punters today also

I don't mind a cathouse, as long as he can stay out of the doghouse...

How can you not like a good cathouse? Please tell me that is really how he pronounces his name. Sorry Harvey, I'll take a well stocked cathouse over an unga any day.

oh sure. Ruin it for us. For a few minutes before you rained on our parade, we were in possession of a Bushrod in a Cathouse. Now all we have are memories...

Does he hold the record for the longest player to ever be on the team without ever being on the team?

Is that an optimistic "He'll be back,"? Or more of a "He'll be back like a bad penny," prediction?

I've really enjoyed having a player on the team for years that doesn't actually play in the regular season. Ever. It's so weirdly impossible to think a team would hold onto a player for so long yet never keep him on the active 53 man roster. This guy was an Angelo pick. I was hoping he'd make it to 4 years in the league, but Emery must have looked behind the curtain and found out The Great and Powerful Unga is just a nobody.

I'm convinced that he was an integral part of the "Hester package" that Tice was masterminding. He was just putting on the finishing touches when his tenure with the Bears (and his Pixie dust contract with the fairies) was cut short. We will never know the amazing things that Unga and Hester might have accomplished as a tandem.

Tice refered to that series of packages as "The Unger Games".

Thank you, thank you. That was an amazing pun, I know. I'll be here all week.

He's been in and out of the Bears so frequently, it's probably starting to feel good.
