As I remember Conte cancelled/closed all his social network accounts after that game.
Actually poor play up front can make you take bad angles.
Like a pool table ... how do you get around the 8 ball?
Butkus Im going on record as to writing off last season as a FLUKE.
Because its never happened before on DEFENSE.
I cant wait to see this training camp when it comes to Defense.
Payback. I mean like really MEAN payback.
If we dont have the 85 BEARS or 2014 Seahawks plugged into our head sockets day one then step aside.
Because we aint going anywhere.
I mean it when I say we have to be MEAN in search of the mean to win.
THIS IS YOUR CHICAGO BEARS ! There is no grey area.
As was stated above, Conte continuously took poor angles last year. Wright was even worse. True, the front 7 was awful at slowing anyone down and not many players in the NFL can take down a quality RB, let alone AP, in the open field. I get that. That said, if you take a bad angle, come in off balance or have very poor technique, you then have ZERO chance of making a tackle. Conte, in my opinion, has been guilty of all three bad habits, at times, ever since he came to the Bears. It's hard for me to believe that better players around him or a different system will fix those weaknesses.
Who is Chris Conte?
And it may not which is why we drafted a guy who might be able to replace him. Conte is an average Safety. Not the worst and not the best. I'd like to see way better than average back there and soon but I'll also give nod to Conte's experience as a starter as being worth at least something.
Vereen needs to get that experience or he'll be making some of the same mistakes that Conte made when he was a rookie. It's not as if nothing is being done to improve the situation. I really like Vereen and the type of player I think he'll become. The only question is how soon does he get to that point?
I was going to start to go into how any S is taught to run an alley in run support....if the front 7 is getting their teeth kicked in the alley is going to be off....looks like a bad angle from the TV.....yadda yadda yadda.....but I wont because WE HAVE BEAT THIS HORSE TO DEATH, GOT OUT THE DEFIBRILLATORS, AND THEN BEAT IT TO DEATH AGAIN.
Again....for the past 5 months we have came to a simple conclusion.
The unit sucked.
We want someone to blame.
It was easy to pick out Conte and the broadcasters did it for the sake of simplicity.
Defense is a complicated entity, and unless someone has Tucker's playbook and a script of calls then we just don't know.
Conte has to consistently make the plays that are there.
....and that's what all this boils down to, not much more that needs to be said. In 3 weeks we can remove that nightmare of last season's defense from memory (I hope)
I'm not anointing Vereen as the next Gary Fencik, and I'm not advocating cutting Conte. Still, I'd rather see a rookie with some upside making the same mistakes Conte will surely make if he's left in there. To me, a safety has two main jobs. Don't allow a lot of the the "big mistakes" that can really cost your team and make the plays that are there to make. Frankly, Conte just doesn't make enough good plays to offset the mistakes.
I just bought this. Think it may come in handy soon?
In France, the French think horsemeat is ok to eat.
Explains why they switched to snails.
