I'll leave last year out since its too early to make reasonable judgements or predictions. Here's a look at our last 4 years previous drafts in the top 3 rounds--where you would expect to pick immediate or eventual starters: 2009 1st: traded for Cutler 2nd: traded down for 3rd + DT Melton in 4th 3rd: WR Juaquin Inglesias and DT Jarron Gilbert 2010 1st: traded for Cutler 2nd: traded for DE Gaines Adams (RIP), pick eventually went to NE and Gronkowski 3rd: SS Major Wright 2011 1st: OT Gabe Carimi 2nd: DT Steven Paea 3rd: FS Chris Conte 2012 1st: DE Shea McClellin 2nd: WR Alshon Jeffery 3rd: SS Brandon Hardin That's 12 total players acquired directly or indirectly via high level 1st-3rd round draft picks. Of those.... 1 is a non-elite but above average starter (Cutler) 1 is a potential elite star player (Jeffery) 1 is a decent but otherwise undistinguished starter (Paea) 1 is an inconsistent and now injured starter who will probably be gone soon (Melton) The other 8 are/were either major disappointments or outright busts. That's 3 out of 12 that can be properly qualified as a "success". There's the main reason we are over a barrel right now. Great work by our GMs huh?
