    Lack of competition. Most of our ISPs are handled my a handful of companies (Comcast/Time Warner alone control 2/3rds of all households).

    When you have a virtual monopoly on something, then you have no incentive to provide a better service, or for cheaper, because where else are people going to go? (South Park did a great episode on this not too long ago).

    Enter Google Fiber...Fiber Optic internet, 100x faster than cable, and not part of the current media/ISP monopolies. They are going to force ISPs to become more competitive and provide better/faster service, else risk losing customers to Google Fiber. Only problem is, Google has to go city by city and get the Cities approval and help with infrastructure to lay down the fiber wires, so its going to take awhile.

    San Antonio's council just approved the Google Fiber contract, so happy, Time Warner is awful, and while AT&T has made huge advancements in their tv/internet it's to expensive for what you get. Dish/Direct TV have priced themselves out imo. Go Google.
