Is he worth having so that we start at the twenty yard line every time we get the ball? It may be.
The day is coming when kickoffs are eliminated completely. Who knows when that will be
If he returns to form this year he'll be back.
Yeh, QBs will be just texting TDs and not throwing them at that time.
The NFL does not like kickoffs. Because they are one of the most dangerous times in the game (according to some reports) they are going to do all they can to limit returns. Already started by allowing the kickers to move up. More Touchbacks equal less returns, equal less injuries.
It is only a matter of time before they decide to just allow teams to start at the 20 and eliminate the kickoff all together.
I don't think it's that Benj, but I do agree that Hester is likely gone next year. Next year there will be a lot of familiar players that will no longer be w/the team. I don't think the team is planning on returning more then a few of the guys on 1 yr contracts; and I think a few that are coming to the end of their contracts might get cut or traded.
The elimination of kickoffs likely does not come next year. But Hester is going to want more than a return man is worth. So he will be gone.
But mark my words, a returner is going to go away. Become a thing of the past
Well, thankfully his forte has been the punt return game, but Cincy's guys were down there in a hurry. Agree completely about kickoffs, it almost seems like they're slowly preparing us for no kickoffs by having just about every one end in a touchback, lol. Do I think Hester will be back? Only if he comes cheaply AND performs well this year. If he doesn't perform well, it doesn't matter if he's paying us, there's no reason to have a 31 year old return man who lost his stuff years ago. I'm hoping against hope that he shows a little of that spark he had early on in his career.
Do you want to put our O at the one yard line?
I'm going to say no and even he says so his home is for sale in Gurnee.
with a pay cut one more year, if not he will be gone.
I think it would take a combination of him returning to form, taking a paycut, and even blocking a punt or two at this point. Lot's of penny pinching now and Emery is throwing nickels around like manhole covers like Halas did. DeCamillis may have the final say so if he keeps his ST elite he just might have the gravitas to persuade the staff to keep him.
Glad somebody got to that part. Yea Henry. You're right, he's returned far more punts for TDs than kickoffs and the season is young. He wants to break the TD record so he'll do whatever he can to get it and I believe they'll let him even if it means bringing kicks out from 8 and 9 yards deep in the end zone. He's good enough to bring those back out to at least the 20 and if they get too deep in their coverage and he breaks through the first wave he's gone. But......he's far more likely to get one or two off of PRs this year than KOs.
I think if he breaks the record he may well hang it up. If not and he wants to return he'll have to accept a pretty low offer to do it. Personally I'd like to see him really bust out again this year but the odds of it happening are not as good as they've been in the past.
I'm pretty sure you're meaning that because Emery has no choice. With that said, yeah, we're basically gonna have no choice but to build this team the way the Packers have been building theirs: almost exclusively through the draft.
The good thing is tho, Cincy did try kicking away from him, and so Minnesota will either see if they can stop him, or if they kick away from him, he might be valuable to us because of the fear he gives to opponent's ST coaches.
he'll be gone and he only is here this year because of what he did in the past
Hester's History ,..chit It's only a matter of time before the League drops them completely ,.... the League has already done away with kick offs in the Pro Bowl yes ??
to the OP,.... trade in yer rocket ,... there is no rocket science to the scheme of things here
The writing is on wall and has been since the league dropped KOs from the Pro Bowl
This is the last year for Hester w/ Da Bears. Having a KR/PR specialist on the roster is almost a waste of a spot on the 53 especially since kickoffs are basically void and people have learned how to contain him on PR using directional kicking. He is still a factor though at times on punts with teams giving up on just booming a kick rather trying to be fancy and putting it near the sideline and often times giving us better field advantage.
