Good signing for depth at the least.
Hixon is Weems replacement not Earl's IMO.
And that's perfectly fine by me.
Yeah, Weems sucked last year at everything except committing penalties.
Bennett may still be cut if the look to add more FAs. They seem ok with Wilson as his replacement. Anderson isn't a bad option either.
Either way, your talking about the 5 the receiver option. Behind Marshall, Jeffery, M. Bennett and Forte. And that's before the draft when they may get another WR or receiving TE.
What in the world would lead you to believe that Hixon is an uprade over Earl Bennett? I have no problem with his signing, or even cutting Bennett, but I don't see a track record that shows he'll be an upgrade over Earl.
If Weems is cut, the runt of the receiving corps will be Earl Bennett, at 6'0". What a difference from the Lovie era.
I thought Hixon was a good special team player with return abilities that could still play wide out. Looks to me like a better candidate than Weems for the money. A lot more versatility and bigger than Weems.
ya i miss thought that, this is definately more about Weems.
I like the signing, but I don't think it is to replace Bennett.
Bennett had 4 TDs last year on practically the same play every time. For a #3 WR and the 5th option on the field, I'll take Bennett back.
Might be a case where they release him (no Dead cap left in his contract I think) and re-sign him to a more appropriate contract.
Bennett has some of the best hands in the League, and that kind of depth is what keeps a team rolling when injuries happen.
So basically he sucked at everything except sucking.
He's the suckiest suck who ever sucked.
Hixon signing means that Weems is gone.
Also if Marquess Wilson and Hixon can show that they can produce in the passing game, it probably means the end of Earl Bennett too.
That just leaves Conte's 1.6 million needing to be cut off the roster. Lets hope that one of these free agent safeties or a safety we draft ends up beating him out of a job.
