I'm sure a good number here will say Conte unequivocally, and while Major Wright has more tackles than him, I will take the side of getting Major Wright off of our team first, and here's why: Wright is a horrible "8th man in the box", and, in our last monday night game, Jon Gruden even pointed out, that on many of the big runs, he was repeatedly in the wrong gap, which allowed for a big hole for the running back, and forced Conte to try to make far too many open field tackles. I'm not excusing Conte for not being able to, but regardless of who the safety is, the runningback almost always has the advantage in open space against a safety. I've repeatedly referenced the fact that the Bears played a LOT of cover 3 last year, because Major Wright is nothing but a liability in coverage. Now that Tillman has been hobbled/showed his age all year, they're not able to use the cover 3 as much, which really starts to show how weak Wright's play is, in coverage. Adding to the fact that the defensive line has been ineffective, those flaws are magnified While Major wright has more tackles than Conte, he is also a phase 2 ST player, which means his stats are inflated above Conte's. Wright is in a contract year, Conte is not. My memory may be a little off on this, but isn't Wright usually playing too deep when he's going back in coverage? Comparing career penalties, Conte has 5, for 50 yards, Wright, 6 for 95 yards. Seeing that Conte has had only 4 penalties as a FS, and Wright has all of his as a SS, it's easier to make the argument that Wright is more reckless than Conte. Again, I'd replace both of them, as starters, while keeping them as backups, but if I HAD to get rid of one, it would be wright. I'm also emotionally against the guy, because he cut Urlacher's career short, with that knee injury he gave him at the end of the 2011 season(which Urlacher never regained form from).
